Smart Broadband, Inc. recently launched it’s new product for wireless broadband access. It’s an extension of SmartBro product. But instead of using the Canopy-based system to connect to the internet, the new service will utilize the mobile network’s High Speed Data Packet Access (HSDPA) service.

The new service, dubbed as “Plug It, is a USB-based modem that can easily be plugged to a laptop or a desktop computer. According to the press release given by Smart, the new service will operate at the 384 to 768 kps speeds. According to Abe of Yugatech, Smart is being careful with the speeds they promise to the public since Smart Telecoms., Inc. has not yet covered the whole country with HSPDA infrastructure. Thus, they gave the users the rated speed for 3G systems.

This service will compete with Globe Visibility, another mobile internet service provided by Smart’s rival network Globe Telecom. The only advantage Visibility has over Plug It is the availability of HSDPA all over the country.

Another exciting thing about this product is its price. The basic service (Smart Bro Plan 799) is offered for Php 799.00 a month. This service includes 60 hours of free internet surfing and Php 10.00 will be charged for every 30 minutes of internet use. Another plan, Smart Bro Plan 999, is offered for Php 999.00. This plan features unlimited internet access.

These rates are considerably cheaper compared to Visibility’s Php 3000.00 per month.
